Winners announced: Top tips for the school holidays!
We recently asked our parent community for their best school holidays tips.
We were inundated with fantastic hacks and ideas, but have managed to pick our tip 5. These winners will each receive $50 credit in their Flexischools wallets.
You can read the Terms and Conditions for this competition, here.
As the final school bell rings for 2025, we hope that these tips help you enjoy the summer break. Congratulations to our winners!
Tip #1: Silent Disco Clean-Up
“I give each kid headphones, hit play, and suddenly cleaning becomes a full-body dance-off. They've got 10 minutes to tidy a room while dancing like unhinged little goblins.
Timer goes off, and the reward is a 30-second solo performance (which they take way too seriously).
They think it's a party, I get a clean floor, everyone wins.”
- Sophie, SA
Tip #2: Get creative in the kitchen
“I have teenagers and we all know they are hard to entertain as they just love being online.
I ask them to think of their favourite meal or something they have seen that they would like to try, and it must be something that can be made from scratch.
We review the recipe and shop for ingredients together, then my teen makes the meal with some help and guidance from me. They will then make this meal for the family on a regular basis (as long as its tasty).
This not only engages and entertains them, but they enjoy the parental connection and are proud of their efforts.”
- Emily, QLD
Tip #3: Keep the kids entertained - without the cost
“A week or two before the end of term, go online and check out what's happening in your area. Eventbrite have a lot of FREE or inexpensive activities to entertain the kids and alleviate boredom. Get in early because places are limited.”
Jenny, NSW
Tip #4: Make school lunch prep a fun activity
“Once Christmas is done, get the kids busy by cooking their favourite school treats. Do double batches, so they can enjoy their work and freeze the other portion so you can simply thaw & bake during the school term. For rolled out biscuit mix male them into logs to slice up when needed, or if roll into ball type biscuits simply freeze as balls.
It’s a wonderful way to save money, especially so, if you’re using the oven to cook dinner at the same time..”
- Bren, NSW
Tip #5: A timely reminder
“You only have 18 summers with your kids, enjoy every one of them.”
- Jessica, SA
